FOUNDER PROFILE

Bryan Vuong

Founder & CEO of Cyfendo

Bryan Vuong (also known as Ba-Quy Vuong) is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cyfendo. Based in Silicon Valley, California, Bryan focuses on artificial intelligence and application security, with a mission to help software engineering teams protect their applications even when they do not have dedicated security departments.

Before founding Cyfendo, Bryan held engineering leadership roles at Google and Meta. Earlier in his career, he co-founded InnoSearch AI, an assistive technology platform designed to help blind and low-vision users navigate digital commerce. Across his career, his work has centered on taking advanced, data-intensive technologies and making them practical, reliable, and accessible for broader groups of people.

Why He Founded Cyfendo

The motivation behind Cyfendo stems from a widening imbalance in modern software development. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly capable, automated tools provide attackers with greater capacity and velocity to probe software for weaknesses. At the same time, the vast majority of software companies, fast-growing startups, and mid-sized enterprises operate without specialized in-house application security teams. Engineering teams are often expected to write features, manage infrastructure, and safeguard customer data simultaneously.

Bryan founded Cyfendo to bridge this gap. Cyfendo is built as an autonomous application security platform that analyzes source code to identify potential vulnerabilities, evaluates whether those flaws can be realistically exploited, and assists engineering teams in generating and testing verified fixes. Rather than offering absolute security guarantees, the platform is designed to provide practical, evidence-based security defenses that fit naturally into standard engineering workflows, giving teams the capacity they need to defend what they build.

“What worries me is the gap between increasingly powerful attack capabilities and the resources ordinary businesses have to defend themselves. I founded Cyfendo to help them protect what they’ve worked so hard to build.”

Attribute detection

Granted 2015
US Patent 9,098,543 B2 Assignee: Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Co-inventor

Identifies and validates product attributes and values in user search queries by verifying candidate terms against concept knowledge bases using Bloom filters for low-latency validation.

Patent family includes U.S. application 13/804,806 (US 2014/0280201 A1), sister application 13/827,075, and European patent application EP 2,778,982 A1.

Selecting search result images based on color

Granted 2016
US Patent 9,305,118 B2 Assignee: Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Co-inventor

Detects color references within product search queries and dynamically selects corresponding product image variants whose colors best match the requested color specification.

Originating from U.S. patent application 13/730,748 (published as US 2014/0188842 A1).

Ranking search results based on color

Granted 2016
US Patent 9,460,214 B2 Assignee: Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Co-inventor

Adjusts e-commerce search result rankings by evaluating whether parsed color terms from user queries appear within product titles and catalog descriptions.

Originating from U.S. patent application 13/730,772 (published as US 2014/0188854 A1; patent family includes sister patent US 9,460,157 B2 and continuation patent US 9,563,667 B2, granted in 2017).
